Maria bought this 3-bed penthouse apartment in her home city of beautiful Barcelona. It’s a cool space with views of the both city skyline and sea from its roof terraces. With the help of a team it’s been totally remodelled, following years of ownership by an elderly lady.
I first viewed the flat in early 2015 during the restructuring process. Following conversations, profiling, and research, I then came up with a visual plan for the apartment. It’s now a fab home, perfect for parties, having friends over, working from home or just resting when Maria isn’t running her busy digital production business or travelling.
I created mood boards to look at the themes and priorities which came out of profiling activities. Craft/vintage ideas, Maria’s love of travel, using colour in big way, ideas for the kitchen, bathroom and terraces, were all probed. We also looked at design solutions for specific areas, a passageway and a dominant pillar in the main living space. A few enhancements to the final parts of the remodelling work also came out of this process.
The main space was tackled first. Pure white, it flows from a dining / working area to an airy and relaxing space by the terrace entrance. Plenty of room was left for art, ceramics and other favourite possessions without making it feel like a gallery. Brightly coloured furniture to match the vivid sky and the character of vibrant Barcelona and a range of lush tropical plants for the terrace was also recommended.
The kitchen follows suit, painted white with colourful and ceramic touches. At the other end of apartment bedrooms were left cool white, with some individual touches to create restful spaces.
The result is a stylish and grounded home which reflects Maria’s full and fun lifestyle, and is the perfect hot city pad to come home to.
